Overview
Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT) announced on 2 July 2026 from Shanghai the launch of its HSWE magnetic bearing centrifugal chiller, a product developed specifically for the Asia‑Pacific market and aimed at the most demanding cooling applications, notably data centres.
Technical Performance
- The chiller achieves a full‑load coefficient of performance (COP) of up to 7.3 under China’s GB standard and an AHRI Integrated Part‑Load Value (IPLV) of up to 12.3.
- Electricity is estimated to represent about 88.5 % of the chiller’s total lifecycle cost, so the high efficiency translates into significant operating savings.
- Noise emissions can be as low as 73 dB(A), making the unit suitable for noise‑sensitive environments such as hospitals and commercial buildings.
- Cooling capacity ranges from 500 RT to 1,250 RT for standard applications and from 600 RT to more than 1,500 RT for data‑centre installations.
- The system can operate with a leaving chilled‑water temperature of up to 35 °C, enabling integration with waterside economisers and free‑cooling schemes.
- After a power outage the unit can restart within 25 seconds and reach full load within two minutes, reducing risk of server overheating.
Controls and Refrigerant Readiness
- The chiller incorporates the AdaptiView™ controller, which combines adaptive control, feed‑forward control and variable primary‑flow compensation, and represents the first application of adaptive refrigerant‑flow control on a centrifugal platform.
- It is designed for readiness with next‑generation hydro‑fluoro‑olefin (HFO) refrigerants, supporting future sustainability and regulatory requirements in the region.
Executive Comment
Bruce Zhongping Gu, Vice President‑Engineering and Technology for Trane Technologies Asia Pacific, said the launch marks an important milestone for the company in the region and reflects ground‑up innovation to meet the extreme performance demands of modern data centres.
