Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), a Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Atomic Energy, celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Year on October 4, 2026, marking six decades since its incorporation in 1967. The celebrations at Jaduguda commemorated UCIL's journey in uranium mining and processing and its contributions to India's nuclear power program.
Ms. Seema Jain, Member-Finance of the Atomic Energy Commission, served as the Chief Guest for the celebrations. During the event, she visited the Technology Demonstration Pilot Plant at C, R&D, Jaduguda and the proposed new site of the Dark Matter Laboratory at the 815-metre level of the Jaduguda underground mine, which is associated with the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, an aided institution of DAE.
A significant feature of the celebrations was a first-of-its-kind Journalists' Workshop held at the Information Centre, Narwapahar, which provided media delegates with opportunity to interact with scientists, engineers, and technical experts. Participants visited UCIL's uranium mining and milling facilities, gaining first-hand exposure to mining operations, ore handling and processing systems, and the technologies and practices adopted at operational sites.
The event also included a special DAE Technology Exhibition for school students that showcased industrial and societal applications of nuclear energy. Senior officials including Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, conveyed greetings on the occasion, emphasizing the importance of continued innovation and capability building for India's Nuclear Energy Mission.
