Unitree Robotics IPO Surge

Unitree Robotics debuted on the Shanghai Stock Exchange on 19 August 2026, with its shares soaring more than seven‑fold. The stock opened at its listing price of 150.80 yuan and surged to an intraday high of 1,100 yuan, representing a gain of over 600% before moderating by the midday break. At the peak price, the company’s market capitalisation was valued at more than US$50 billion.

The rally contrasted sharply with the broader market, as the Shanghai Composite and the Shanghai‑Shenzhen CSI 300 indices each fell by more than 2% on the same trading session.

Unitree Robotics is among the world’s largest developers of humanoid robots and is financially backed by major Chinese technology firms Alibaba, Tencent and AI specialist DeepSeek. In conjunction with its listing, the company unveiled a new humanoid robot named “Superman,” which it claims can jump two metres from a standing position and run at speeds exceeding typical human capability.

The listing follows the recent high‑profile Shanghai debut of memory‑chipmaker CXMT and occurs amid heightened US‑China friction over artificial‑intelligence and robotics technologies. In July, the United States imposed a ban on the import of foreign‑made humanoid and quadruped robots, a move that could restrict a significant export market for Unitree despite its technological lead over U.S. competitors such as Boston Dynamics and Tesla.
