Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan participated in the Vishwa Seva Dinam celebrations at Mata Amritanandamayi Math in Amritapuri, Kollam, marking Mata Amritanandamayi Devi's 73rd birthday. During the event, the Vice President launched several humanitarian initiatives including ₹2 crore in assistance for Nepal flood relief handed to the Ambassador of Nepal to India, Surender Thapa. He distributed certificates for free surgeries for underprivileged beneficiaries at Amrita Hospitals in Kochi and Faridabad and provided financial assistance to families of fishermen.
The Vice President highlighted the Math's extensive charitable medical care worth over ₹890 crore provided in India since 1998, which has benefited more than 64 lakh patients through free treatment and surgeries. The organization's educational initiatives include more than 55,000 scholarships provided worldwide, along with tablet-aided education, after-school tutoring, adult literacy, and vocational training programs.
Women empowerment through AmritaSREE has supported around 2.5 lakh women from poor and vulnerable communities through start-up capital, vocational training, and microfinance, with more than 15,000 Self-Help Groups established. The Math has constructed more than 50,000 homes for the homeless across India and Sri Lanka, provided pensions for more than one lakh impoverished people, and implemented various livelihood initiatives.
Disaster response efforts include assistance during the Indian Ocean tsunami, Gujarat earthquake, Uttarakhand floods, Keralam floods, COVID-19 pandemic, and Wayanad landslides. The Math contributed ₹100 crore to the Government of India's Namami Gange programme and has undertaken environmental initiatives including planting more than 10 lakh trees worldwide as part of the UN Billion Tree Campaign, along with numerous cleanliness drives through the Amala Bharatam initiative.
The Vice President emphasized that development must have a human face and that 'Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi' should guide India's journey toward becoming a Viksit Bharat that is inclusive and leaves no one behind.
