Announcement
Virohan, a leading healthcare education company, announced the launch of "Voices of Service", a new learning initiative that will incorporate the stories, experiences, and lessons of Padma Shri awardees and other healthcare changemakers into allied and healthcare education curricula.
Event Details
The inaugural Padma Health Conclave 2026 was held on 19 August 2026 at the India International Centre in New Delhi. The conclave was organized with India House serving as the Knowledge Partner.
Key Participants
- Guest of Honour: Dr Amarjeet Sinha, IAS (Retd.), former Adviser to the Prime Minister and architect of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the National Rural Health Mission.
- Speakers: Five Padma Shri awardees – Dr Ravindra Kolhe and Dr Smita Kolhe (Padma Shri 2019), Dr Kshama Metre (Padma Shri 2008), Dr Harsh Mahajan (Padma Shri 2002), and Sh Nilesh Mandlewala (Padma Shri 2026). Their work covers tribal healthcare, rural development, accessible diagnostics, and organ donation.
- India House Co‑Founder & CEO Kumar Shubham provided remarks on the need for a service mindset in health systems.
- Virohan Co‑Founder & CTO Nalin Saluja explained the initiative’s purpose.
Rationale and Workforce Need
Virohan highlighted that India requires more than six million allied and healthcare professionals, including technicians, technologists, therapists, and specialists, to keep the health system operational. Over the past decade, Virohan has scaled its training programmes but asserts that technical competence alone is insufficient; the initiative aims to embed empathy, leadership, integrity, and a commitment to service into student learning.
Initiative Description
Through "Voices of Service", the lived experiences of the Padma Shri awardees will become part of Virohan’s curriculum, allowing students to learn from real‑world examples of service, leadership, and social impact rather than solely from textbooks.
