Overview

On World Heart Day, Volkswagen Group Digital Solutions India announced the successful completion of Mission Prafulla, an organization‑wide initiative that trained 100 % of its 4,500 + employees in Basic Life Support (BLS), including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). The training, delivered over the past one and a half years, was undertaken in memory of a colleague, Prafulla, who suffered a cardiac arrest, underscoring the importance of timely intervention.

Context

The Cardiological Society of India has reported an approximate 30 % increase in cardiac arrests over the last ten years, highlighting growing public health concerns around cardiac emergencies in India.

Leadership Statements

Group CEO Sidharth Yadav stated that making the workforce cardiac‑emergency‑ready creates waves beyond the organization, enabling every employee to potentially save a life at work, home, or elsewhere. Chief People Officer Soumi Alphons emphasized that the tragedy of losing a colleague motivated the program and that practical CPR training has been provided to every employee over the past two years to foster a culture of care and preparedness.

Real‑World Impact

Employees have already applied their training: at Mumbai Airport, staff returning from a business trip performed CPR, used an AED, and coordinated emergency assistance, contributing to the survival of an individual suffering cardiac arrest. In another case, an employee assisted a person experiencing a severe seizure at home, providing critical support until additional help arrived.

Ongoing Commitment

Volkswagen Group Digital Solutions India will continue the BLS program for all new hires, ensuring that emergency response preparedness remains an ongoing capability across the organization.
