VA TECH WABAG LIMITED ('WABAG') has secured a major contract from Reliance Industries Limited ('RIL') for the design, engineering, supply, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and Performance Guarantee Test Run (PGTR) of a large-scale desalination and remineralization plant at Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Nature of Contract

The contract involves:

  • A Desalination Plant with initial capacity of 8,400 m³/hr, expandable to 12,600 m³/hr (302 MLD)
  • A 3,000 m³/hr Remineralization Plant using limestone-based process system

Technical Specifications

The Desalination Plant will comprise:

  • Lamella Clarifiers
  • Dissolved Air Flotation Filters (DAFF)
  • Ultra Filtration (UF) system
  • Associated chemical dosing and backwash systems
  • Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) systems
  • Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) Systems

The Remineralization Plant will comprise:

  • Limestone filters

The order is classified as 'Mega' category, which according to WABAG's classification means:

  • International orders: Above USD 150 million

Since this is a domestic project, the contract value exceeds INR 1,000 crores.
