Overview

The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of the Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI), celebrated more than 75 years as India’s oldest MBA/PGDM entrance examination. The press release announced that XAT 2027 will be administered on January 3, 2027 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with the registration window remaining open until December 6, 2026.

Exam Structure and Content

The test consists of approximately 95 questions to be answered within 180 minutes. It assesses candidates in Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation, and a dedicated Decision‑Making section that presents real‑world scenarios requiring critical judgment. In addition, a 20‑question General Knowledge segment—comprising eight static GK items and twelve current‑affairs questions—carries no negative marking and does not contribute to the overall percentile or cutoff; it is considered solely for selection to XLRI programmes. There are no sectional time limits, allowing candidates to navigate between sections freely, and because the exam is held in a single slot, score normalisation is unnecessary.

Institutional Reach and New Members

More than 250 B‑schools across India accept XAT scores, including several institutions accredited by AACSB and AMBA. The test is conducted in over 100 cities nationwide, providing broad geographic access. The XAT network expanded with the addition of a new XAMI member institute, Xavier Institute of Management and Informatics, Jaipur, and six new associate institutes: Accman Institute of Management (Greater Noida), Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management (Faridabad), Dayananda Sagar Business School (Bangalore), Mahindra University (Hyderabad), Narayana Business School (Ahmedabad), and Sparsh Global Business School (Gurgaon).

Eligibility and Candidate Profile

Eligibility is open to candidates holding a recognised bachelor’s degree of at least three years or those in their final year of graduation, with no restriction on academic discipline. Historically, many of India’s CEOs and CXOs have taken XAT as part of their journey toward management education.

Preparation Support

XAT offers extensive preparation assistance, including mock tests, webinars, and dedicated preparation sessions. For the 2027 cycle, official mock tests were made available during the registration period. The second edition of the mock‑test offering, introduced in September, featured two papers and a comparative rank analysis to help aspirants gauge their readiness.
