Announcement
Xiaomi Corp (HK:1810) announced that it will commence sales of its electric vehicles in Europe beginning in 2027. The statement was made at the IFA Berlin trade show, where executives said they have signed memoranda of understanding with eight of Germany’s largest dealer groups to set up a high‑quality retail and service network ahead of the launch.
Share price reaction
Following the announcement, Xiaomi shares rose 3.6% to HK$28.46, briefly touching a 10‑day high of HK$28.76. The move contributed to the Hang Seng Index’s 2% gain on the day.
EV portfolio and sales to date
Xiaomi entered the Chinese EV market in early 2024 and has sold more than 700,000 units since launch. The SU7 sedan and YU7 model have been the primary sales drivers, both receiving positive consumer and critic feedback. The company also recently unveiled the SkyNomad series, marking its entry into the extended‑range, large‑space segment.
Competitive context
Other Chinese EV manufacturers such as SAIC (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 600104) and BYD (HK:1211) are already focusing on Europe to offset intense competition at home, highlighting the strategic importance of the region for Xiaomi.
