Acquisition Overview
Yara International’s subsidiary has reached an agreement to purchase the Gulf Coast Ammonia (GCA) production facility located in Texas from GCA Holdings LLC for a consideration of $1.3 billion. The deal follows Yara’s June decision to abandon a previously contemplated acquisition of ammonia assets at the Louisiana Clean Energy Complex from Air Products.
Supply Arrangement
Under the new arrangement, while Yara will assume ownership of the Texas plant, Air Products will continue to supply industrial gases to Yara through a long‑term supply agreement, ensuring continuity of feedstock for the ammonia process.
Plant Capacity and Commissioning Status
The Texas facility is designed with a nameplate capacity of 1.3 million tonnes of ammonia per year. It is currently in the commissioning phase and is expected to ramp up progressively, achieving full production and stable operations by the end of 2026. Yara has indicated that production is targeted to exceed the nameplate capacity once the ramp‑up is complete.
Financial Impact
The acquisition lifts Yara’s total capital expenditure for the fiscal year 2026 to $2.5 billion, reflecting the $1.3 billion outlay for the Texas plant alongside other ongoing investments.
Strategic Significance
Ammonia serves as a critical raw material for Yara’s fertiliser manufacturing, and the addition of the Texas asset expands the company’s production footprint in North America, aligning with its growth strategy in the fertiliser sector.
