Overview
Zomato and Blinkit, operating under Eternal Limited, have collectively facilitated income‑tax return (ITR) filing for more than 100,000 delivery partners across 905 Indian cities during the current fiscal year. The filing deadline for gig workers is 31 August 2026, leaving roughly one month for remaining partners to submit their returns.
Financial Impact
The initiative has unlocked refunds worth ₹18 crore for the participating delivery partners. Notably, approximately 73 % of those who filed this year were first‑time filers, indicating a significant expansion of the gig workforce into the formal financial system.
Platform‑Enabled Filing Process
The filing service is offered at a subsidised rate through a third‑party provider and is entirely digital and self‑serve. Delivery partners initiate the process directly from the Zomato or Blinkit Delivery Partner App, where a dedicated chatbot guides them to verify personal details, authenticate via OTP, and submit required information within minutes. Instant support is available through the chatbot, and a dedicated hotline provides additional assistance.
Awareness and Communication Strategy
Both platforms employ a digital‑first outreach, leveraging in‑app targeted communication campaigns and delivery‑partner testimonials to educate peers about the ITR filing benefits. Blinkit reinforces the message with physical posters and LED‑screen creatives placed at dark‑store locations frequented by partners.
Complementary Welfare Initiatives
ITR filing is part of a broader suite of financial‑wellbeing programs offered to delivery partners, which includes:
- OPD cover, medical and accidental insurance, and maternity insurance.
- Paid period rest days for women delivery partners.
- Financial tools such as fixed and recurring deposits and pension accounts under the gig‑variant National Pension Scheme (NPS).
