Air New Zealand FY Pretax Loss NZ$336m

Air New Zealand reported a pretax loss of NZ$336 million for the financial year ended 30 June 2026, which was narrower than the NZ$356.5 million loss forecast by Visible Alpha and represents the airline’s largest annual loss in three years. The company attributed a reduction of profit by an estimated NZ$190 million to engine availability issues that have persisted since 2023 when Pratt & Whitney recalled more than 1,000 engines used on Airbus aircraft for inspections, leading to intermittent groundings. The ongoing Middle East conflict added NZ$205 million to the airline’s fuel bill after hedging, further pressuring profitability. Despite these challenges, Air New Zealand indicated that engine shortages are beginning to ease as more aircraft return to service, and its shares rose 1.30% following the announcement.
