Core Financial Performance
Glencore PLC reported a sharp rise in first‑half earnings, with adjusted EBITDA increasing 86% year‑on‑year to $10.1 billion for the six months ended 30 June 2026. Revenue grew 49% to $174.4 billion over the same period. The marketing division’s adjusted EBIT surged 142% from the prior year, while industrial adjusted EBITDA rose 72% to $6.5 billion, driven by higher copper, coal and other commodity prices despite elevated operating costs and supply‑chain disruptions. Net income attributable to shareholders swung to $4.4 billion from a loss of $655 million a year earlier.
Shareholder Returns
The company announced an additional shareholder payout of approximately $1.5 billion, comprising a special cash distribution of 8.5 U.S. cents per share and a $500 million share‑buyback. Including prior returns, total announced shareholder distributions for 2026 amount to roughly $3.5 billion.
ASX Secondary Listing Plan
Glencore disclosed plans to seek a secondary listing on the Australian Securities Exchange, targeting admission in October 2026. The secondary listing is intended to broaden the investor base, improve trading liquidity and eventually support inclusion in the ASX 200 index.
Outlook and Analyst Commentary
The miner projected full‑year 2026 adjusted EBITDA at about $19.7 billion, assuming market conditions remain broadly unchanged. Chief Executive Gary Nagle said the company expects continued strong cash generation in the second half, citing current commodity prices and higher expected production volumes, particularly in steel‑making coal. Morgan Stanley said the results were modestly ahead of expectations, highlighted lower‑than‑expected net debt, and reiterated an overweight rating with a 590‑pence price target, while noting that higher copper‑cost guidance offsets some of the earnings upside.
Market Reaction
Glencore shares climbed more than 4% on Wednesday, outpacing the FTSE 100, which rose about 0.5%. The stock posted a 2.95% gain, contributing to a 7‑week high in the share price.
