Hindustan Copper Limited reported exceptional financial performance for FY 2025-26, achieving record revenue of ₹3,077.92 crore (49% YoY growth) and net profit of ₹920.67 crore (97% YoY growth). Financial Performance
Revenue growth was fueled by domestic sales increasing 39% to ₹2,647.92 crore and export sales surging 174% to ₹406.48 crore. The company maintained robust profitability with EBITDA margin of 48.7% and earnings per share of ₹9.52. Key financial ratios showed significant improvement: Return on Equity increased to 29.36% from 19.10%, Net Profit Margin improved to 30.14% from 22.88%, and Debt Equity Ratio reduced to 0.04 from 0.07.
Operational Highlights
HCL achieved metal-in-concentrate production of 27,421 tonnes (9% growth) and copper ore production of 36.72 lakh tonnes (6% growth). The company resumed mining at Indian Copper Complex after three years and achieved highest production in seven years. Operational performance varied across units: Khetri Copper Complex saw 40% ore production increase while Malanjkhand faced geological challenges resulting in 11% decrease.
Corporate Actions & Dividend
The Board recommended a final dividend of ₹1.86 per share (37.20% on face value), totaling ₹179.87 crore, in addition to the interim dividend of ₹1.00 per share already paid. Total dividend outgo for FY26 stands at ₹276.57 crore. The company also approved fund raising through QIP of up to 9.69 crore shares and issuance of NCDs/bonds up to ₹500 crore.
Expansion & Growth Initiatives
HCL embarked on an ambitious expansion plan to increase ore production capacity from 4 MTPA to 12.2 MTPA by FY2030 through brownfield and greenfield projects. Capital expenditure of ₹464.53 crore was incurred on mine development and expansion, funded through internal accruals. The company was declared preferred bidder for Baghwari–Khirkhori Copper Block and collaborated internationally with CODELCO for resource security.
Employee Benefits & Provisions
The company introduced a Post-Retirement Medical Scheme (PRMS) in Q3 FY26, resulting in a one-time provision of ₹95.75 crore recognized as an exceptional item. Employee benefit obligations included Provident Fund (₹61,339.78 lakh), Gratuity (₹7,868.04 lakh), Leave Encashment (₹7,988.95 lakh), and PRMS (₹8,753.02 lakh).
Contingent Liabilities & Disputes
HCL faces substantial contingent liabilities totaling ₹12,623.39 crore, including disputed tax demands of ₹10,487.52 crore (VAT/CST/GST, Excise Duty, Income Tax) and other claims. Significant disputes include:
- ₹248.25 crore for disputed terminal tax with Municipal Council, Malanjkhand
- ₹141.53 crore (net of provision) for arbitration award related to terminated mining contract
- ₹171.33 crore for disputed water cess demand from Jharkhand Water Resources Department
- ₹238.50 crore for various other disputed demands
The company has filed appeals and challenges in appropriate courts and tribunals for these matters.
Subsidiaries & Joint Ventures
HCL holds 74% stake in subsidiary Chhattisgarh Copper Limited and 30% stake in joint venture Khanij Bidesh India Limited (KABIL). The Board approved an amendment to change KABIL shareholding ratio from 40:30:30 to 60:35:05, pending regulatory approvals. KABIL reported loss of ₹705.37 lakh for FY26.
Governance & Compliance
The company faces governance challenges with no valid Independent Directors since November 2024 and no Woman Director since March 2025, resulting in non-constitution of mandatory committees. The 59th AGM is scheduled for September 23, 2026, to address director appointments and other resolutions.
