Star Health Q1 FY27 Results Overview
Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited (NSE: STARHEALTH, BSE: 543412), India's largest standalone health insurer, released its financial results for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (Q1 FY27). The company reported a normalised profit after tax (PAT) of ₹386 crore, representing a 44% year‑on‑year (YoY) increase driven by robust premium growth, disciplined underwriting and continued operating efficiencies. Under Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS), PAT was ₹550 crore, up 25% YoY from ₹438 crore in the comparable quarter of FY26.
Underwriting profit rose sharply to ₹111 crore, a six‑fold increase from ₹16 crore in Q1 FY26, while the combined insurance service ratio (CISR) improved to 97.0%, a 1.7‑percentage‑point improvement over 98.7% in the prior year. Gross written premium (GWP) on a reported 1/N basis reached ₹4,287 crore, up 19% YoY. Fresh retail health GWP for the quarter was ₹730 crore, marking a 37% YoY rise.
The insurer settled 9.6 lakh claims during the quarter. The retail claims settlement ratio improved by 1 percentage point to 91%, persistency increased by 3 percentage points YoY to 102%, and the Net Promoter Score (NPS) rose by 12 points to 65 as of June 2026.
Digital initiatives continued to drive growth. The proprietary digital direct‑to‑consumer (D2C) channel contributed 16% of fresh retail sales, growing 142% YoY, and 97% of fresh policies were sourced digitally. The company’s AI‑enabled platform ATOM PRO—recognised by The Economic Times in the BFSI FinNext Awards 2026 under “InsurTech Product Excellence of the Year”—supported advisors with intelligent product recommendations, instant quotations, policy comparisons, network‑hospital search and business dashboards. The Star Health Customer App recorded 14.7 million downloads and over 1.5 million monthly active users, facilitating digital renewals, claims submissions and wellness initiatives. AI‑ML analytics have been embedded in claims operations, and the firm is layering generative‑AI capabilities.
Distribution strength remained robust as of 30 June 2026, with 900+ branch offices, 8.5 lakh+ agents, 16,000+ network hospitals, and 18,500+ employees supporting the business.
