Sumco Q2 Operating Loss and Outlook
Sumco reported a second‑quarter operating loss of ¥1 billion, which was in line with analyst expectations. For the third quarter, the company provided an operating profit guidance of ¥0 billion, also matching market forecasts.
The firm indicated that its 300 mm wafer production lines are operating close to full capacity, a utilization level comparable to other players in the semiconductor wafer sector. Management noted that existing long‑term agreements (LTAs) with customers expire at different times, with some contracts extending to around 2028. The company is evaluating whether to commence new LTA negotiations before the current agreements lapse or after they expire.
Customer demand for additional production capacity has been received, but Sumco reiterated that substantial price increases are required before any new capacity is added. The company has no plans to restart construction of the new Yoshinogari plant, a project that was halted in March, and is instead focusing on upgrading its existing production facilities.
