Macroeconomic Context

The global economy withstood rising tariffs and geopolitical tensions in 2025 with major economies registering stable growth. AI-driven trade propelled global trade volumes by 4.6%. However, conflict in the Middle East in February 2026 caused damage to energy infrastructure and partial closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

In India, FY26 real GDP growth was 7.6%, higher than previous year's 7.1%, supported by reduction in income tax and GST rate rationalization. Private consumption expanded 7.7%. Headline inflation fell from 4.7% to 2% in FY26. For FY27, RBI projects GDP growth at 6.6% despite elevated risks from higher energy prices and trade disruptions.

Cement sector volumes are expected to grow 6-7% in FY27 on sustained demand from housing and infrastructure sectors.
