W.R. Berkley Corporation (NYSE:WRB) reported second‑quarter 2026 results that surpassed analyst expectations. Adjusted earnings per share were $1.15, exceeding the consensus estimate of $1.09 by $0.06. Revenue reached $3.72 billion, topping the $3.28 billion forecast and representing a 1.2 % increase from $3.67 billion in the comparable quarter of 2025.

Operating income climbed to $497.1 million, an 18.2 % year‑over‑year rise, supported by strong underwriting performance and a record net investment income of $418.7 million, which grew 10.4 % versus the prior‑year period. The segment’s combined ratio improved to 91.4 % from 92.1 % a year earlier, while the accident‑year combined ratio before catastrophe losses was 88.1 %. Catastrophe losses totaled $62.4 million, down from $99.2 million in the second quarter of 2025.

The Reinsurance & Monoline Excess segment posted a combined ratio of 79.3 %, a substantial improvement from 87.4 % in the prior‑year period, despite gross premiums written declining 8.0 % to $341.2 million. Net investment income from fixed‑maturity securities increased 11.9 % year‑over‑year.

Shareholder returns for the quarter amounted to $334.1 million, comprising $185.5 million in special dividends, $111.5 million in share repurchases, and $37.1 million in regular dividends.

W. Robert Berkley, Jr., chairman, chief executive officer and president, said the company delivered an excellent second quarter, generating an annualized 20.5 % operating return on beginning‑of‑year stockholders’ equity, driven by outstanding underwriting performance and record net investment income.
