17th Pension Adalat Achieves 84.2% Grievance Redressal Rate

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh chaired the 17th All India Pension Adalat organized by the Department of Pension & Pensioners' Welfare (DoPPW) at T. N. Chaturvedi Memorial Hall, IIPA, New Delhi. The adalat specifically addressed 897 long-pending grievances relating to family pensioners and super-senior pensioners for expeditious resolution. As of October 5, 2026, 756 cases have been successfully redressed, achieving a redressal rate of 84.2%. The remaining cases are being pursued for resolution in the coming days.

Dr. Jitendra Singh reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring ease of life and pensioners' welfare, emphasizing that technology and digital interventions must translate into simpler and more accessible services for pensioners and their families. The Minister stressed that pension administration must continuously learn from experiences and difficulties faced by pensioners to remove shortcomings in the existing system. He highlighted that the objective of pension reforms is not merely technological advancement but ensuring that benefits reach the last mile and make tangible differences to pensioners.

Technology-Driven Pension Reforms and Digital Initiatives

The Minister emphasized the growing use of digital technology in pension-related services, particularly highlighting efforts to simplify processes through digital identity and face-recognition based mechanisms. He specifically referenced the Digital Life Certificate initiative and underlined the importance of campaigns and awareness programs to ensure pensioners can obtain digital certificates conveniently. Dr. Singh called for continuous efforts to inform pensioners about available digital facilities through modern communication tools and media outreach.

Significant Case Resolutions and Financial Impact

Two exemplary cases were highlighted during the adalat. Ms. Chander Kanta Jally, widow of a martyr who made the supreme sacrifice in 1973, had been receiving family pension lower than her entitled amount. Through the Pension Adalat intervention, family pension arrears amounting to ₹2.02 crore were released to her. In another case, Ms. Damyanti Sinha received pensionary benefits of more than ₹72 lakh. Both cases involved super-senior family pensioners and demonstrated the adalat's effectiveness in resolving long-standing grievances.

Publications and Institutional Mechanism

During the adalat, flyers on success stories of the 16th Pension Adalat and an e-booklet titled "Bringing Ease in the Life of Family Pensioners" were released. These publications highlight the government's continuing efforts toward effective grievance redressal and improving the experience of pensioners and family pensioners. The Pension Adalat represents an institutional mechanism developed by DoPPW for meaningful, accessible, and expeditious redressal of pensioners' grievances, originally introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017.
