The Government of India released the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on October 30, 2026, transferring ₹18,690 crore to 9.34 crore eligible farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer. This brings cumulative disbursements under the scheme to over ₹4.64 lakh crore since its launch on February 24, 2019.

The PM-KISAN scheme provides annual financial assistance of ₹6,000 to landholding farmer families with cultivable land, disbursed in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 directly into Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts. The Union Cabinet approved the scheme's continuation from 2026-27 to 2030-31 with a total financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore, and the Union Budget 2026-27 allocated ₹60,000 crore specifically for PM-KISAN.

The scheme employs a technology-enabled delivery system with Aadhaar-based authentication, e-KYC verification through OTP, biometric, or face authentication, and integration with the Public Financial Management System (PFMS). Farmers can register through the PM-KISAN portal, mobile app, or Common Service Centres, with state governments responsible for beneficiary identification and database management.

Transparency measures include public display of beneficiary lists at village level and recovery proceedings for ineligible recipients. As of December 2025, ₹416.75 crore has been recovered from ineligible beneficiaries including income tax payers, government employees, PSU personnel, and constitutional post holders.

The system features multi-tier monitoring at national, state, and district levels, with grievance redressal through the PM-KISAN portal and CPGRAMS. During FY 2024-25, 24,605 grievances were recorded on the portal.

Technology enhancements include the PM-KISAN mobile application with face authentication feature launched in 2023, and Kisan-eMitra, an AI-enabled chatbot introduced in September 2023 that provides 24/7 assistance in 11 languages (Hindi, English, Tamil, Bengali, Odia, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi, Telugu, Marathi, and Kannada) for payment status, registration, and eligibility queries.

The scheme aims to support agricultural investments in seeds, fertilizers, irrigation, and machinery, reduce dependence on informal credit, and strengthen financial stability of rural households through direct income support.
