The Ministry of Electronics & IT announced significant adoption metrics for the Aadhaar App, which has crossed 31 million downloads since its launch less than five months ago. This robust acceptance reflects growing resident confidence in the app's ability to deliver services directly to smartphones. The app has facilitated nearly 4 million mobile number updates and approximately 850,000 address updates, demonstrating its utility for essential Aadhaar management tasks.

The Aadhaar App provides Aadhaar Number Holders with a convenient, privacy-first method to show, share, and verify their identity. Key features include one-click biometric lock/unlock functionality, face verification for proof of presence, authentication history tracking, and a QR-based editable contact card that replaces physical visiting cards. The app also enables downloads of e-Aadhaar and allows for online appointment booking at Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs).

Beyond basic updates, the app supports numerous real-world applications through its Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) QR code scanning capability. These use cases include hotel check-ins, hospital admissions, visitor management systems, event entries, and identity verification for gig workers and service partners. The app is available for both Android and iOS platforms, ensuring broad accessibility across smartphone users in India.
