Agriculture Ministry Launches Upgraded Agri Welfare Portal for Farmers
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan formally launched the upgraded Agri Welfare Portal on October 19, 2026, advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India vision. The portal provides farmers across India with direct mobile access to all government agricultural schemes, financial assistance, and reliable agricultural information, eliminating procedural hurdles and intermediaries.
The platform serves as a single-window gateway to major government initiatives including PM-KISAN, AgriStack, and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, enabling farmers to access scheme information, subsidies, rules, and digital services without visiting multiple government offices or navigating different websites. The portal facilitates online eligibility checks, direct application submission, and transfer of financial assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), enhancing transparency and reducing intermediary involvement.
Technical specifications include compliance with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's Digital Brand Identity Manual 3.0 and Guidelines for Indian Government Websites 3.0, ensuring a secure, mobile-friendly experience. The portal is specifically designed for rural users with lightweight architecture for basic smartphones and weak internet connectivity, and includes accessibility features for persons with disabilities such as screen reader support and simple navigation.
Farmers can access authentic information on weather conditions, scientific farming practices, seed and fertilizer availability, and prevailing market prices for agricultural produce. Minister Chouhan emphasized the importance of accurate and regularly updated information to maintain public trust, and directed officials to ensure simple language and processes accessible to small and marginal farmers with limited formal education. A special training campaign will be conducted through Krishi Vigyan Kendras nationwide to help farmers effectively use the portal and other digital tools.
The launch event was attended by Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Secretary Shri Atish Chandra, Additional Secretary Pramod Meherda, senior officials from the Digital Agriculture Division, and officials from the Ministry and National Informatics Centre. The technical team was commended for developing the upgraded portal within stipulated timelines, creating a common digital platform that brings together Farmer Producer Organisations, Primary Agricultural Credit Societies, agricultural scientists, researchers, and startups.
