Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah attended the commemorative programme marking the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee in Kolkata as the Chief Guest on July 6, 2026. The event was attended by Chief Minister of West Bengal Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Union Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and other dignitaries, with a video message from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi screened during the programme.

Shah announced that a 125-foot-tall statue of Dr. Mookerjee will be constructed in Kolkata, alongside the establishment of the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Institute dedicated to research on India's security. The West Bengal Government has declared Dr. Mookerjee's birth anniversary a public holiday. Several policy implementations were highlighted including the Annapurna Scheme, Ujjwala 3.0, free bus travel for women and girl students, the Lakhpati Didi Mission, and free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh for the poor under Ayushman Bharat. The construction of a cancer hospital has begun in North Bengal.

The West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Bill 2026 has been passed to enable strict action against criminals. A Durga Suraksha Squad has been constituted for women's safety, and the process of identifying and deporting infiltrators from the state has begun. A committee under Justice Brijendra Nath has been constituted to investigate corruption cases in West Bengal, with the commitment that those found guilty will return every penny taken. Additional committees have been formed to investigate cases of atrocities against women and for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code.

Shah emphasized that Prime Minister Modi fulfilled Dr. Mookerjee's resolve of "Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan, Ek Nishan" by abrogating Article 370, making Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India. The Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) has been enacted to grant citizenship to persecuted Hindus. The government claims to have completed the process of granting citizenship to refugee Hindus and is committed to removing every infiltrator from India's soil.
