Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed via video conference a ceremony for distribution of assistive devices to Divyangjans (persons with disabilities), including those affected by Naxal violence, under the ongoing 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan'. The event marks the completion of 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public service, first as Chief Minister and then as Prime Minister.
The program was held in Jagdalpur from 5 to 7 October 2026, benefiting more than 3,600 persons with disabilities. More than 1,570 beneficiaries were from Bastar alone, reflecting the extensive suffering in the region from five decades of Naxalism. Shah condemned Naxals for using IED blasts to make innocent people Divyangs for political purposes, calling it the gravest violation of human rights.
The Modi government has eliminated Naxalism from the entire country before 31 March 2026 and is now focused on healing the wounds and ensuring victims can live with dignity. The government is providing wheelchairs, tricycles, crutches, hearing aids, smart walking sticks, artificial limbs and other assistive devices to support rehabilitation efforts.
Significant progress has been made in the region with 8,526 Naxalites surrendering. Bank accounts have been opened for 7,328 former Naxalites who didn't have accounts previously. A total of 1,620 people have received reward money, 7,882 have received incentives, 455 have been provided jobs, and 129 have been allotted land. Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 4,014 beneficiaries have received houses, and more than 2,308 tribal people have undergone skill development training.
Additional infrastructure developments include 6,763 new ration cards issued, 2,808 families provided free electricity, work begun on 372 new road projects, and construction underway on 670 small bridges. The administration has issued 48,526 Aadhaar cards and recognized 44 gram panchayats under the 'Ilwad Panchayat Awards'.
The Chhattisgarh government has implemented several initiatives including Bastar Olympics, Bastar Pandum (to revive tribal art and culture), Niyad Nellanar scheme (for basic infrastructure), and CM Collective Bus Scheme to transform Bastar into a vibrant region. Out of more than 500 former security camps, over 200 will be converted into Shaheed Veer Gundadhur Seva Dera, where government officials will work to lay the foundation for a developed Bastar.
