Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah presented the President's Colours to the Puducherry Police in a ceremony attended by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. This honor represents the highest recognition for any disciplined force and acknowledges the Puducherry Police's bravery, hard work, and dedication in maintaining law and order across the union territory's four geographically separated regions.
The event highlighted significant financial contributions from the central government to Puducherry's development. From 1950 to 2014, previous governments provided only ₹3,500 crore for developmental works, while the Modi government has provided ₹13,762 crore over 12 years (2014-2026), representing nearly four times the previous allocation. Additionally, the government has facilitated industrial investments worth ₹39,000 crore in Puducherry over the past nine years.
Infrastructure development projects include the four-laning of National Highway 332-A undertaken at a cost of ₹2,200 crore and the construction of an extended runway measuring approximately 3,400 metres long and 45 metres wide. Citizens have benefited from various central government initiatives including Lakhpati Didi, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ayushman Bharat, toilet construction, free foodgrain scheme, Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The Union Home Minister also noted that the government has replaced British-era penal codes with three new criminal laws built on three pillars: Technology, Timeline, and Trust, with the objective of ensuring justice for citizens in a technology-enabled and time-bound manner rather than being merely punitive.
