Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah will meet families of individuals who lost their lives for speaking against synthetic drug ('chitta') traders in Punjab's Mansa, Sangrur, and Gurdaspur districts on October 20, 2026. The meeting was announced through an official press release by the Ministry of Home Affairs posted on October 18, 2026, at 9:10 PM through PIB Delhi.

In a post on X platform, Shah directly accused the Punjab government of systematically pushing the state into an abyss of drug abuse, stating that this situation has caused numerous families to lose their children. He characterized the grief experienced by these families as beyond verbal expression. The Home Minister made a firm commitment that the Government of India will track down those involved in the 'chitta' trade and ensure their imprisonment, with the objective of completely eliminating this drug menace from Punjab and the entire nation.

Shah also addressed the violence against anti-drug activists, asserting that attempts to silence voices speaking against the drug trade will never succeed. He stated that the people of Punjab will provide a 'befitting reply' to such suppression attempts. The announcement positions the central government as taking direct action against drug trafficking in Punjab, implying criticism of the state government's handling of the drug crisis.
