The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment featured a success story of the Top-Class Education Scheme through student Annu Supriya's experience. Annu Supriya, a 19-year-old OBC/Teli student from a financially constrained background, received financial assistance of ₹1,29,100 in 2025 under the scheme, which enabled her to pursue B.Tech at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Raipur.
Her family circumstances presented significant barriers to higher education, as she was raised by a single mother who works as a daily wage labourer. Financial constraints prevented her from joining offline coaching for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) preparation, and lack of family awareness about engineering entrance exams meant she learned about JEE relatively late. Despite these challenges, her perseverance led to admission at NIT Raipur where she is currently a first-year B.Tech student.
The scholarship significantly reduced the financial burden on her family and provided her with confidence and motivation to focus on studies. Beyond academics, Annu is developing technical skills by learning C and C++ programming languages and exploring software development concepts including Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA). She also participates in extracurricular activities such as calisthenics and drawing for personality development.
Looking forward, Annu aims to establish a career in the technology sector, contribute positively to society, prepare for competitive examinations, and pursue higher achievements in computer science. The case demonstrates how the Top-Class Education Scheme helps reduce financial barriers for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access premier educational institutions and pursue professional degrees.
