The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in collaboration with the ICAR–Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), Lucknow, has successfully facilitated India's first commercial sea shipment of premium Banganapalle mangoes to Singapore. The consignment of 5 metric tonnes was exported by Osum Food Solutions LLP on June 11, 2026, and arrived in Singapore on June 24, 2026.

The mangoes were sourced from Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)-certified orchards in Andhra Pradesh and processed at an APEDA-recognized packhouse in Karnataka, meeting all quality and phytosanitary requirements prescribed by Singapore. Importer EC-Links Pte Ltd reported excellent fruit quality, specifically noting sweetness, uniform ripening, shelf life, and phytosanitary condition, confirming the effectiveness of scientific post-harvest management and cold-chain logistics during sea transportation.

The export generated significant economic benefits for farmers, achieving approximately ₹50 per kilogram compared to domestic market prices of ₹25-26 per kilogram, nearly doubling farm-gate returns. This successful shipment demonstrates the growing viability of sea freight as a cost-effective, environmentally sustainable, and commercially scalable transport mode for fresh fruits, supported by robust cold-chain infrastructure and efficient logistics management.

Banganapalle mangoes, prized for their golden-yellow color, pleasant aroma, fibreless pulp, and rich sweetness, enjoy strong international demand. APEDA's market development initiatives, infrastructure support, and capacity-building measures aim to promote wider adoption of maritime transport for horticultural exports, aligning with the Government of India's objective to boost agricultural exports, enhance farmers' incomes, and expand the global footprint of Indian agricultural produce through efficient and sustainable export pathways.
