The Indian government has upgraded 12,500 existing Ayush dispensaries and sub health centers into Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) facilities under the National Ayush Mission (NAM) scheme. All 12,500 approved centers are currently functional across states and union territories, with Rajasthan having the highest number at 2,019 centers, followed by Uttar Pradesh (1,034) and Himachal Pradesh (761).
Financial assistance for upgradation was provided at a unit cost of ₹16.22 lakh per Ayush dispensary and ₹15.744 lakh per sub-center. The facilities aim to establish a holistic wellness model based on Ayush principles including Yoga therapy, Ayurveda consultations, and Naturopathy treatments, focusing on preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare through integration with existing public healthcare systems.
According to state reports, beneficiary footfall has increased post-upgradation as these facilities now provide additional services beyond OPD including Prakriti Parikshan, Yoga activities at facility and community levels, and awareness about common medicinal plants. Quality monitoring is conducted through NABH assessment, third-party reviews, and visits by central teams to ensure quality, accreditation, and proper training of Ayush practitioners.
