A student delegation from Bihar, led by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, concluded a visit to Punjab as part of the Yuva Sangam Phase VI programme on June 13, 2026. The educational and cultural immersion visit was hosted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar. The delegation met with Punjab Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria at Lok Bhavan, Chandigarh on June 10, 2026, where he encouraged participants to embrace India's cultural diversity, contribute to nation-building, and strengthen national unity. The Governor emphasized youth participation in shaping the country's future and fostering inter-regional harmony.
During their stay, the delegates visited several significant landmarks including Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, where they observed the integration of natural landscapes with urban design. The delegation also visited the historic Harappan archaeological site at Ropar (Rupnagar) along the Sutlej River, providing insights into ancient civilization, and explored Bhagat Singh's ancestral house. Participants examined Chandigarh's Sector 17 Plaza and other urban landmarks to understand the planning principles behind India's first planned city.
The Yuva Sangam Phase VI initiative is organized by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme. The program aims to foster national integration and strengthen people-to-people connections among youth from 22 paired States and Union Territories by providing exposure to diverse cultural traditions, educational institutions, innovation ecosystems, and developmental initiatives.
