The Union Cabinet approved Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 with a total outlay of ₹8.69 lakh crore, including central assistance of ₹3.59 lakh crore.
Funds of ₹1,562 crore were released to five states for FY 2025-26, with Uttar Pradesh receiving the largest share of ₹792.93 crore.
The mission aims to provide tap water to all 19.36 crore rural households by December 2028, with 81.8% coverage already achieved.
A reformed, service-delivery model focuses on sustainability, with 12 states signing reform-linked MoUs and digital tracking of water supply schemes.
