The Ministry of Home Affairs reported that Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have planted 66,840,570 saplings across India over the five-year period from 2020 to December 31, 2025, as part of environmental conservation initiatives under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration. The plantation drive was conducted nationwide with significant state-wise variations in implementation.
The highest plantation activity was recorded in Manipur with 6,485,390 saplings, followed by Nagaland (6,116,030), Assam (5,964,779), Tripura (3,365,185), and Jammu & Kashmir (3,310,107). Other states with substantial plantation numbers include Rajasthan (3,158,812), Uttar Pradesh (3,153,905), West Bengal (3,021,221), and Madhya Pradesh (2,703,651). The year 2023 saw the highest annual plantation activity with 15,420,567 saplings planted, while 2025 recorded the lowest at 5,748,015 saplings.
Additionally, CAPFs developed 3,212 nurseries to support the plantation drive and established 1,995 memorial gardens (Vatikas) dedicated to martyrs. Among the forces, Border Security Force developed the most nurseries (1,097) and dedicated the most memorial gardens (544), followed by Central Reserve Police Force with 1,117 nurseries and 763 memorial gardens. Assam Rifles developed 299 nurseries and 140 memorial gardens, while Central Industrial Security Force established 291 nurseries and 256 memorial gardens.
The data was presented by Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Nityanand Rai in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, highlighting the CAPFs' significant contribution to environmental conservation efforts across all states and union territories of India.
