The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is actively implementing Special Campaign 6 for Swachhata, focused on enhancing cleanliness in government offices and resolving pending matters including public grievances and MP/PMO/State Government references. The campaign follows DARPG guidelines and is being implemented by field formations nationwide, commencing with a Preparatory Phase from September 15-30, 2026, followed by an Implementation Phase from October 2-31, 2026.

In the first two weeks of the Implementation Phase, the campaign has achieved significant results: cleanliness drives were carried out at more than 1,200 sites across India; successful disposal of scrap including e-waste contributed to revenue generation while promoting responsible waste management; weeding out of more than 14,000 redundant files; freeing up of approximately 55,000 square feet of space; and resolution of more than 13,000 public grievances.

The CBDT Nodal Officer is working in close coordination with regional counterparts to ensure effective implementation, with daily progress updates being uploaded to the SCDPM portal managed by DARPG. To enhance public engagement, CBDT has made more than 150 posts on X (formerly Twitter) highlighting achievements, best practices, and citizen-centric efforts.

Several specific initiatives were undertaken during the campaign: Income Tax Departments in West Bengal & Sikkim and Gujarat conducted cleanliness drives at public spaces including St. John's Church in Kolkata, Kamudini Homes Higher Secondary School in Kalimpong, Municipal Girls High School in Darjeeling, pilgrim places in Mehsana, and Vastrapur Railway Station in Ahmedabad. The office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal & Sikkim organized a 'Waste to Art' exhibition from October 1-6, 2026, featuring artworks made from discarded household materials. The Office of the Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), Delhi converted an under-utilized floor area into a 'Laghu Pustakalaya' mini library with reading lounge. Income Tax Offices at Kolkata, Chennai, and Bhubaneswar undertook initiatives for proper e-waste disposal. The Office of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-2, Kolkata restored an overgrown garden through clearance and beautification with fountain features and decorative elements.

The Income Tax Department also actively participated in the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' (SHS) campaign during September 2026, which included the Swachhata pledge, sustainable waste management, medical camps for Safai Mitras, cleaning of parks and public spaces, and engagement with school students through 'Swachhata Gyan Yatra' and nationwide 'Shramdaan - Ek Din Ek Ghanta Ek Saath'.
