The Ministry of Home Affairs has reported the complete nationwide implementation of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS), with all 17,762 police stations across India using the system as of June 1, 2026. The CCTNS system facilitates the collection, updating, and analysis of crime and criminal data on a near real-time basis, providing significant benefits to States/UTs Police, Central Law Enforcement Agencies (CLEAs), and Indian citizens.

The system enables comprehensive computerization of police processes including complaints, FIRs, investigation details, charge sheets, court disposals, appeals, and challans/registers. It provides search capabilities on national and state databases of crime and criminals, and enables data sharing among police, central investigative agencies, courts, prisons, forensic departments, and prosecution services for more effective justice delivery.

At the national level, citizens can access several services through the Digital Police Portal and Central Citizen Services Portal, including missing persons search, vehicle NOC generation, proclaimed offenders information, and locating the nearest police station. Additionally, various State Police Citizen Portals provide nine mandated citizen services: filing complaints to concerned police stations, obtaining complaint status, obtaining copies of FIRs, details of arrested persons/wanted criminals, details of missing/kidnapped persons, details of stolen/recovered vehicles/arms/properties, submission of requests for issue/renewal of various NOCs (procession, event/performance, protest/strike), verification requests for servants/employment/passport/senior citizen registrations, and portals for sharing information and downloading required forms.

This information was formally stated by Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on August 5, 2026.
