The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare announced major procurement approvals for Tamil Nadu farmers, with Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan approving the procurement of both copra and Totapuri mangoes. For copra, the Centre approved procurement of 87,226 metric tonnes during 2026, consisting of 87,000 metric tonnes of milling Khopra and 226 metric tonnes of ball copra. This procurement will be undertaken at Minimum Support Price under the Price Support Scheme, with the total MSP value exceeding ₹1,049.16 crore. Separately, the Minister approved procurement of 96,879 metric tonnes of Totapuri mangoes under the Market Intervention Scheme, with the intervention price fixed at ₹1,545.41 per quintal. Both interventions are designed to ensure remunerative prices for producers, protect them from distress sales caused by market fluctuations, and provide greater income security through government-backed procurement at notified prices. The approvals represent significant relief measures for Tamil Nadu farmers, with the combined initiatives expected to enhance farmers' incomes, strengthen the rural economy, and reinforce confidence in the agricultural sector.
