The Department of Biotechnology, under the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, has launched Special Campaign 6 from October 2 to 31, 2026, focusing on e-waste management and workplace cleanliness initiatives. During the preparatory phase from September 15-30, 2026, the department set specific targets including reviewing and organizing 18,741 e-files and 7,773 physical files, undertaking cleanliness activities at 156 sites to create 46,486 square feet of usable space, disposing of 1,694 e-waste items, and generating revenue of ₹39,33,055 from disposal of both e-waste and non e-waste items.
The campaign began with Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2, 2026, featuring an e-waste disposal drive led by the Secretary (DBT) at DBT Headquarters in CGO Complex, Delhi. The Secretary emphasized personal responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings and the need for systematic disposal of obsolete records and scrap material to create financial value for the public exchequer and usable office space.
Additional activities included a special cleanliness drive "Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath" on October 1, 2026, chaired by Joint Secretary (Admin) Ms. Ekta Vishnoi, involving a one-hour mass cleanliness drive from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM in a public park near JLN Metro Station followed by plantation of saplings under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. The department also organized "Kabbad Se Kala – Waste to Art" exhibitions under the theme "Swachhata Se Samridhi," where participants creatively repurposed discarded materials.
