The Ministry of Defence has approved the establishment of two new independent National Cadet Corps (NCC) State Directorates in Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, increasing the total number of state directorates from 17 to 19. This expansion is part of the government's initiative to bring NCC closer to cadets and educational institutions in these states, enabling more focused coordination, improved supervision, and enhanced support for training and developmental activities.
The new administrative structure will provide greater opportunities for youth through improved training infrastructure and support mechanisms, aiming to develop confident, capable, and socially committed citizens. The NCC, established in 1948 with an initial strength of 20,000 cadets, has grown into the world's largest uniformed youth organization with over 20 lakh cadets. The organization witnessed an increase of 6 lakh cadets between 2014 and 2025 and is currently present in more than 750 districts across the country.
This decision is guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of empowering India's youth and contributes towards building a stronger, more capable nation. The expansion represents continued growth of the NCC program and its administrative strengthening to serve more young people across India.
