The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, will undertake Special Campaign 6.0 from October 2 to 31, 2026, with a focus on institutionalizing Swachhata, reducing pendency, strengthening record management, promoting responsible e-waste disposal, and ensuring optimum utilization of office space across the Department and its 19 attached, subordinate and autonomous organizations.
Campaign Implementation
The campaign will be implemented in two phases. The Preparatory Phase, running from September 15 to 30, 2026, focuses on identification of targets, review of records and pending references, and preparations for cleanliness drives and disposal activities. The main campaign aims to achieve saturation of Swachhata across all office premises of DPIIT and its organizations, including field and branch offices located across the country.
Previous Campaign Results
DPIIT participated extensively in Special Campaign 5.0 and achieved significant outcomes: 1,572 physical files were reviewed, with 1,119 files weeded out according to record-retention procedures. Disposal of obsolete records and scrap resulted in the release of 11,235 square feet of office space and revenue generation of ₹17,69,569. The Department also addressed pendency targets including disposal of Public Grievances and Public Grievance Appeals.
Focus Areas for Campaign 6.0
The current campaign will place greater emphasis on sustainable cleanliness practices, systematic record management, and efficient utilization of government office space. Key focus areas include saturation of Swachhata in office premises and surrounding areas; identification and disposal of pending references within prescribed timelines; review and weeding out of records as per retention schedules; effective collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste through authorized channels; disposal of obsolete and unserviceable items; optimum utilization and release of office space; improvement of workplace aesthetics; and institutionalization of sustainable practices.
Special Emphasis on E-waste and Innovation
A special thrust will be given to e-waste management, with emphasis on proper identification, segregation, collection and disposal of electronic and electrical waste through authorized agencies. The campaign will encourage innovative and replicable solutions promoting sustainability and circular economy principles. The Indian Rubber Material Research Institute (IRMRI) has already implemented a "Waste to Wealth" initiative using discarded rubber scrap for road construction with Waste Rubber Tiles and Crumb Rubber Cement Concrete, incorporating 10-15% waste rubber particles in the cement-concrete mix.
Expected Outcomes
Through Special Campaign 6.0, DPIIT and its organizations aim to strengthen the culture of Swachhata, efficiency, accountability and good governance across their offices, ensuring outcomes are sustained and institutionalized beyond the campaign period for cleaner, more efficient, sustainable and citizen-centric government workplaces.
