The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a case study showcasing the impact of the NSFDC Electric Auto-Rickshaw Subsidy Scheme, 2024 through the journey of Shri Durgesh Barkhane from Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh. The beneficiary received financial assistance of ₹1,85,000 under the scheme, which enabled him to purchase an auto-rickshaw for approximately ₹15,000-20,000 and establish a sustainable livelihood.
Prior to receiving the assistance, Shri Barkhane was unemployed with no stable income source and struggled to meet his family's basic needs. The subsidy transformed his economic condition, providing him with a regular income through auto-rickshaw operations. He expressed that this support has improved his financial situation and enabled him to support his family with greater dignity and confidence.
The case study demonstrates how targeted financial assistance programs can create livelihood opportunities, promote self-employment, and help individuals from disadvantaged communities achieve economic self-reliance. The initiative is part of the Ministry's broader efforts to strengthen family financial security and inspire others in rural communities to pursue similar paths toward economic independence.
