The Ministry of Labour & Employment has achieved significant milestones in social security coverage for unorganised workers through the e-Shram portal (eshram.gov.in), launched on August 26, 2021. As of July 14, 2026, the portal has registered 31,78,31,749 (31.78 crore) unorganised workers, including platform workers and migrant workers, creating a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW). Each registered worker receives a Universal Account Number (UAN) on a self-declaration basis.

In a major enhancement, the ministry launched State/UT microsites on January 29, 2025, empowering local administrations with dedicated e-Shram portals to address unique regional requirements and challenges. These microsites are designed to tailor services to align with specific state needs, simplifying worker registration, data updates, verification, and providing state-specific analytics.

Following the Budget Announcement 2024-25 vision, the ministry launched eShram as a "One-Stop-Solution" on October 21, 2024, integrating different social security and welfare schemes at a single portal. This enables unorganised workers registered on eShram to access social security schemes and view benefits availed through the platform.

Fifteen schemes from different Central Ministries/Departments have been integrated with eShram, including Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) with 8.53 crore enrollments, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) with 2.25 crore enrollments, Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) with 6.20 crore enrollments, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) with 98.40 lakh enrollments, Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) with 15.10 crore enrollments, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) with 24.95 lakh enrollments, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) with 23,967 enrollments, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) with 3.96 crore enrollments, One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) with 24.46 crore enrollments, and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) with 32.04 lakh enrollments.

Additionally, eShram has linkages with National Career Service (NCS) for job opportunities, Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) for skill development, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) for pension, and the convergence portal of MoHUA.

State-wise registration data shows Uttar Pradesh leads with 8,45,90,721 registrations, followed by West Bengal (2,67,08,321), Bihar (3,24,68,736), Madhya Pradesh (1,95,17,182), and Maharashtra (1,86,61,199). Smaller states and UTs show lower numbers, with Lakshadweep having 2,876 registrations and Ladakh 36,365 registrations.
