Chief Election Commissioner of India Shri Gyanesh Kumar interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow on August 25, 2026. Over 500 BLOs and 30 BLO Supervisors from various parts of the State participated in the interaction.
In his inaugural address, CEC Gyanesh Kumar described BLOs as the foundational pillar of the world's largest democracy, emphasizing that the preparation of Electoral Rolls and conduct of elections in India are executed strictly as per the Constitution of India, law, and instructions issued by the Election Commission of India. He stated that BLOs are the repositories of trust and transparency of electoral processes and serve as the first interface of the Election Commission with citizens.
The CEC underscored how Uttar Pradesh BLOs had played and continued to play an instrumental role in the preparation of Electoral Rolls. After the completion of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in the State in April this year, over 13.39 crore electors were included in the final Electoral Roll published in Uttar Pradesh. This exercise was carried out by 1.77 lakh Booth Level Officers with concurrent audit by over 5.82 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by recognized political parties.
The meeting included a Question-and-Answer session where BLOs had the opportunity to clarify their doubts directly through interaction with the Chief Election Commissioner.
