Implementation of e-Shram Portal
The Ministry of Labour and Employment has achieved registration of over 31.82 crore unorganised workers on the eShram portal (eshram.gov.in) as of August 3, 2026. The portal was originally launched on August 26, 2021 to create a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) including platform workers and migrant workers. Registered workers receive a Universal Account Number (UAN) on a self-declaration basis.
Scheme Integration and Benefits
In alignment with the Budget Announcement 2024-25, the Ministry launched eShram as a "One-Stop-Solution" on October 21, 2024, integrating multiple social security and welfare schemes onto a single portal. This enables registered unorganised workers to access social security schemes and view benefits availed through eShram. Fifteen schemes from different Central Ministries and Departments have been integrated, including: Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC), and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).
Additional Service Linkages
The portal also provides linkages with National Career Service (NCS) for job opportunities, Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) for skill development, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) for pension, and the convergence portal of MoHUA, offering additional services to eShram cardholders.
Registration Process and Data Integrity
Registration on the eShram portal requires successful Aadhaar-based eKYC authentication, which effectively eliminates duplicate or fraudulent registrations. Key demographic fields including Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Permanent Address, and Photograph are directly fetched from UIDAI to maintain data authenticity and accuracy, safeguarding portal integrity and preventing misuse.
Outreach and Registration Strategy
The Government has adopted a comprehensive strategy to enhance registrations and ensure wider coverage across all States/UTs, including backward districts. In addition to self-registration through web portal and mobile application, assisted registration modes are available via Common Service Centres (CSCs), State Sewa Kendras (SSKs), and the UMANG platform. The Ministry conducts targeted awareness campaigns including registration drives, community outreach programs, and locally tailored communication efforts, supplemented by social media dissemination of videos, tutorials, and informative content.
