FutureSkills PRIME Program Strengthens India's Digital Workforce

The Ministry of Electronics & IT's FutureSkills PRIME program, launched under the Digital India Programme in partnership with NASSCOM, has achieved significant scale in skilling India's workforce in emerging technologies. The program has registered over 34 lakh candidates on its portal, with 23 lakh+ enrolled/trained in various courses and 13 lakh+ candidates completed/certified. The platform hosts more than 500 industry-aligned courses in cutting-edge technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Cyber Security, Internet of Things, Blockchain, AR/VR, and Cloud Computing.

Demographic and Geographic Distribution

The program demonstrates broad participation across demographics and regions, with 41% women participants and over 86% of candidates coming from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. State-wise data shows Tamil Nadu leading with 5,89,429 enrolled/trained and 3,61,336 certified, followed by Maharashtra (2,23,044 enrolled, 1,15,703 certified) and Andhra Pradesh (4,34,489 enrolled, 2,44,096 certified). The North Eastern and Himalayan regions including Sikkim have shown significant engagement with 33,000+ candidates enrolled/trained and more than 16,000 certified.

Infrastructure and Government Training

The program is supported by 22 C-DAC/NIELIT Centres grouped as Lead and Co-Lead Resource Centres for 10 emerging technologies. These centers have trained 32,700+ Government officials, 2,367 trainers, and 40,400+ candidates through more than 420+ bootcamps. Additionally, SSC-NASSCOM has signed MoUs with 17 State Governments (including Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh) and 2000+ academic institutions/universities for adoption of FSP courses into academic curricula under the National Credit Framework (NCrF).

Financial Allocation and Utilization

The FutureSkills PRIME programme is implemented as a Central Sector Scheme with year-wise fund allocation and utilization as follows: FY 2022-23 (Rs. 26.59 Cr. allocated, Rs. 25.72 Cr. utilized), FY 2023-24 (Rs. 23.58 Cr. allocated, Rs. 23.55 Cr. utilized), FY 2024-25 (Rs. 55.97 Cr. allocated, Rs. 51.94 Cr. utilized), FY 2025-26 (Rs. 98.479 Cr. allocated, Rs. 80.81 Cr. utilized), and FY 2026-27 (Rs. 137.17 Cr. allocated, utilization not specified).

Related Initiatives and Expanded Reach

Under the IndiaAI Mission's FutureSkills pillar, 27 IndiaAI Data and AI Labs have been established through NIELIT Centres, including 10 institutions from North Eastern states and 5 from Himalayan regions. NIELIT's extensive network of 56 own centres and 9000+ partner institutes has trained 31 lakh+ candidates in the last 3 years, including 3.05 lakh+ from the North Eastern Region with 20,000+ from Sikkim specifically. The program represents a comprehensive government effort to position India as a cutting-edge digital talent nation through scalable skilling initiatives.
