Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari conducted separate review meetings for National Highway projects covering 3,245 km in Jharkhand and 4,026 km in Uttarakhand, totaling 7,271 km of highway infrastructure under scrutiny. The reviews were initiated based on feedback received through media reports and social media platforms regarding highway conditions and maintenance issues.
During the meetings, Minister Gadkari emphasized the critical need for timely execution of maintenance works and strict adherence to the highest quality standards. He advocated for wider adoption of modern construction technologies to develop sustainable and efficient highway infrastructure across key corridors. The Minister directed all stakeholders, including officials from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and project contractors, to accelerate on-ground execution and strengthen quality monitoring mechanisms to improve riding quality.
Gadkari specifically instructed officials to undertake comprehensive preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season through effective drainage management, slope protection measures, and preventive maintenance. He emphasized the implementation of robust quick-response mechanisms to minimize disruptions during monsoon periods. The Minister stressed that timely intervention and coordinated action are essential to ensure commuter safety and enhance the long-term durability and resilience of National Highway infrastructure. Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Shri Ajay Tamta along with senior officials from all relevant agencies participated in the review meetings held in New Delhi.
