Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah presented the President's Colour to the Goa Police in Panaji, recognizing eight decades of dedicated service and valour. The award acknowledges Goa Police's efficiency in safeguarding the state's extensive coastline, ensuring tourist safety, and contributing to economic strengthening. The ceremony was attended by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary of Goa, Director General of Police of Goa, and other dignitaries.
Goa Police has demonstrated significant operational improvements, reducing emergency response time under the 112 helpline service from 18 minutes to just 8 minutes, with prompt assistance provided to nearly 20,000 calls. The force achieved a remarkable 30 percentage point increase in conviction rate within one year, rising from 23% to 53% of FIRs resulting in convictions. The police force ranks second nationally in implementing the new Nyaya Sanhitas with 93.38% progress across all nine parameters.
A major technological initiative includes the AI-based call agent launched for the 1930 cyber fraud helpline, which will register complaints in all languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and route them to appropriate authorities. This system currently supports Konkani, Marathi, and Hindi, with expansion planned for tourist convenience. The Ministry of Home Affairs has prepared a roadmap for 2026-2029 to build a 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' (Narcotics-Free India), aiming to make every village and city free from narcotics with participation from all departments and state governments.
The new Nyaya Sanhitas incorporate technology, sensitivity, prioritization, and capacity for speedy justice, representing a major policing upgradation that integrates jails, Forensic Science Laboratories, courts, advocates, police stations, and hospitals through technology. Home Minister Shah paid homage to martyrs Balaram Shinde, Abhishek Sher, Shailesh Gaonkar, and Vishwas B. Deykar for their contributions to earning this honor. He also called upon Goa Police personnel to prepare for the International Police Sports Championship in India in 2029, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness for coastal security.
