Establishment of New Ayush Medical Colleges under National Ayush Mission
The Union Ministry of Ayush has provided details about the establishment of new Ayush medical colleges across India under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM). While public health is a state subject, the central government offers financial assistance to state/UT governments for establishing new Ayush colleges where availability of Ayush teaching institutions is inadequate in the government sector.
States and Union Territories can avail financial assistance by submitting suitable proposals through State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) within the provisions of NAM guidelines. Based on proposals received from state governments, 17 new Ayush educational institutions have been supported under NAM from 2014-15 to 2026-27 across various states.
The approved institutions include Government Ayurvedic Medical College in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, which was approved during FY 2025-26. Other supported institutions span multiple states including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Haryana, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, and Uttarakhand. These institutions cover various Ayush disciplines including Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Yoga, Homeopathy, and Sowa Rigpa (Tibetan medicine).
