The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported significant progress in strengthening India's public healthcare infrastructure through the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) framework. As of June 26, 2026, 100% of public healthcare facilities have been assessed using the IPHS digital toolkit, with 64% of these facilities scoring above 50% on compliance metrics. The Ministry launched a web-based dashboard (www.iphs.mohfw.gov.in) on June 28, 2024, to enable real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making for public health facilities' compliance with IPHS 2022 standards.
The Ministry provides technical and financial support to States and Union Territories through the National Health Mission based on Programme Implementation Plans, with approvals granted via Record of Proceedings. Key initiatives include strengthening 24×7 emergency services, obstetric care, and diagnostic facilities in underserved rural areas through human resource engagement, provision of essential drugs, diagnostics, medical equipment, infrastructure development, and establishment of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
The Free Diagnostics Service Initiative provides accessible and affordable pathological and radiological services, offering 14 tests at Sub Centers, 63 at Primary Health Centers, 97 at Community Health Centres, 111 tests at Sub District Hospitals, and 134 tests at District Hospitals, all free of cost to reduce Out-of-Pocket Expenditure. For obstetric care, comprehensive maternal healthcare services are supported under NHM, including antenatal care, institutional deliveries, skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric care, postnatal care, and free services under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram and Janani Suraksha Yojana to ensure safe motherhood and reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.
