The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has notified 11 additional international ports for entry of e-visa holder foreigners into India, effective August 10, 2026. This expansion includes 9 land ports and 2 airports, bringing the total number of international ports enabling e-visa entry to 88 ports nationwide.
The updated port configuration now consists of 37 airports, 38 seaports, and 13 land ports. The newly added land ports are Agartala, Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki, Moreh, and Attari (Road). The newly added airports are Bhopal and Tirupati.
This initiative enhances the attractiveness and utility of India's electronic visa system, which processes approximately 95% of e-visa applications in less than 72 hours. The e-visa facility, introduced in 2014 for nationals of 43 countries, is now available to citizens of 172 countries and constitutes roughly 78% of all visas issued by India.
The e-visa is currently available under 17 sub-categories including Tourist, Mountaineering, Business Visa (B-1 through B-6), Medical Visa (M-1 through M-4), Student Visa (S-1 and S-2), Transit, Miscellaneous (X-1), and Group Visitor Visa (Cruise).
The government has undertaken significant initiatives over recent years to liberalize, streamline, and simplify the visa regime under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aiming to facilitate legitimate foreign travelers while enhancing technological infrastructure for internal security.
