Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan met with a parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Seychelles led by Speaker H.E. Ms. Azarel Ernesta at Parliament House, New Delhi on September 3, 2026. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, which are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2026.
The Vice President highlighted that India announced a Special Economic Package of USD 175 million for Seychelles in February 2026, which is expected to elevate the development and security partnership between the two countries. He noted that 2026 has been significant for bilateral relations, with two State Visits occurring: the Prime Minister of India participated in Seychelles' 50th National Day celebrations in June 2026, while President Dr. Patrick Herminie paid a State Visit to India in February 2026. Additionally, Vice President Sebastien Pillay visited India in February 2026 to attend the AI Impact Summit.
India offered parliamentary capacity building support to Seychelles, including sharing expertise in modernisation and digitisation initiatives such as cyber security training, simultaneous translation of proceedings, paperless parliamentary functioning, and creation of digital archives. The Vice President acknowledged the contribution of the Indian diaspora in Seychelles, particularly Gujarati and Tamil communities, as a bridge of friendship between the nations.
