India-Chile CEPA Negotiations Advance with Year-End Target
Commerce Secretary Shri Rajesh Agrawal met with Chilean Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations Paula Estévez Weinstein on 26 August 2026 in Santiago, Chile to advance negotiations on the India-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). India reiterated its commitment to openness, sustained engagement, and a balanced approach in strengthening the India-Chile economic partnership, with focus on creating meaningful opportunities for businesses and people in both countries.
Both countries emphasized building on their strong and growing relationship, ensuring the CEPA translates shared objectives into concrete and commercially meaningful opportunities. The Commerce Secretary highlighted significant potential for enhanced economic cooperation across multiple sectors including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, energy, minerals, agriculture, machinery, and engineering.
India remains committed to concluding the CEPA negotiations within 2026, aiming to deliver a balanced and mutually beneficial framework that provides equitable and commercially meaningful outcomes. The agreement is expected to open new avenues for greater trade and investment while fostering cooperation in technology, talent, and resilient supply chains, creating stronger foundations for long-term economic cooperation between the two Global South nations.
